Kyiv Historical Studies is an electronic peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to current issues in history and archaeology, with particular emphasis on research in historical urban studies, especially the history of Kyiv.

Borys Grinchenko Kyiv Metropolitan University was established on December 26, 2023, through the merger of Borys Grinchenko Kyiv University and the Municipal Higher Education Institution “Kyiv Academy of Arts,” and is their legal successor (pursuant to the decision of the Kyiv City Council No. 4754/4795 dated June 23, 2022).

Purpose of the Journal

The purpose of the academic journal Kyiv Historical Studies is to highlight current issues in history and archaeology, to promote the development of historical scholarship through the publication of original research, and to foster scholarly discourse in the field of historical studies, with a particular focus on urban history and the history of Kyiv.

Objectives of the Journal

  • to publish the results of contemporary research in history, historiography, and source studies;
  • to advance theoretical and methodological approaches in historical scholarship;
  • to provide a platform for scholarly communication and discussion among historians;
  • to promote innovative research and modern scholarly approaches in the field of history;
  • to uphold the principles of academic integrity, originality, and scholarly rigor;
  • to encourage interdisciplinary research and the integration of Ukrainian historical scholarship into the international academic community;
  • to present reviews of relevant scholarly publications;
  • to support the development of urban history studies, particularly those related to Kyiv.

Scope: the journal publishes scholarly studies addressing current issues in history (without chronological, territorial, or thematic limitations), historiography and source studies, theory and methodology of historical research, as well as reviews of professional publications. Priority is given to research in historical urban studies, particularly the history of Kyiv.

Editorial Principles: epistemological pluralism, academic freedom, openness to scholarly debate, and the promotion of communication within the community of professional historians.

Main Requirements for Authors: the journal requires the highest professional standards of scholarship, including scientific novelty, methodological adequacy to the research problem, thorough engagement with primary sources and historiography relevant to the topic, as well as well-substantiated and original conclusions.

 

The journal is indexed in international scientometric bibliographic databases.
